Yulan & Blaise
Drift Through Dreamlike Addiction on New Single ‘Quench’
Australian-American duo Yulan & Blaise continue to push the boundaries of experimental pop with their new single ‘Quench’, released September 10th, 2025. Following the critical acclaim of ‘God Complex’ and ‘Falling 花火落’, this third single deepens their exploration of the surreal, merging lush soundscapes with an emotional rawness that feels both intimate and otherworldly.
Described by Yulan as “a soft-focus in-between that’s both comforting and paralysing,” ‘Quench’ captures the tender loops of addiction and attachment with cinematic flair. The production is stunningly intricate — a shimmering fusion of bossa nova rhythms, downtempo beats, and angelic vocals — with a sonic palette that includes Omnichord, toy piano, shakuhachi flute, and even Yulan’s heartbeat, subtly mixed into the kick drum. Blaise’s background as the contrabass saxophonist for Violent Femmes adds a deep, resonant texture that grounds the song’s ethereal atmosphere.
The accompanying music video, directed by Gabriel Morrison and art directed by Jane Makela, visualises this emotional landscape through a pink-hued, dreamlike reconstruction of a Trainspotting bedroom — fusing Sofia Coppola’s opulent melancholy with Danny Boyle’s gritty realism.
With ‘Quench’, Yulan & Blaise continue to prove themselves as one of Australia’s most fiercely original and cinematic duos, crafting sonic worlds where vulnerability meets exquisite artistry.
With ‘Quench’, Yulan & Blaise affirm their place as one of Australia’s most original and cinematic duos.
