Pulls the Masks Off Modern Ukrainian Rock

With Masks, Viscula step confidently into their fifth studio chapter, sounding like a band that has truly lived several musical lifetimes. This is an album shaped by motion — geographic, cultural, and emotional — forged between underground parties in Lutsk, forest festivals of Polissya, Asian megacities, European clubs, and beyond. That restless energy pulses through every track.

A key highlight is the presence of legendary Ukrainian bassist Oleksandr Pipa (Voply Vidoplyasova, Borshch), whose Rickenbacker injects a deep, propulsive drive that anchors the record with both authority and soul. The production journey mirrors the band’s nomadic spirit: recorded across Ukraine and Georgia before landing in Seattle, where producer Barrett Jones (Nirvana, Pearl Jam) helps sculpt a sound that balances rawness with atmosphere. The result is a satisfying blend of grunge-era weight and modern rock clarity — a genuine “Seattle sound” without imitation.

Visually, the album is completed by striking artwork from Dmytro Kurovskiy (Foa Hoka), reinforcing Masks as a fully realised artistic statement. More than just another release, Masks feels like a document of survival, collaboration, and creative belief — a unique artifact in the ongoing story of contemporary Ukrainian rock ’n’ roll.
