'Waves of Hope': An Inside Look at the Creative Process Between Brothers

Cloud Cycle's latest single, "Waves of Hope," offers a compelling fusion of ethereal melodies and powerful guitar lines, capturing the essence of their unique sound. At the heart of this track is the dynamic collaboration between brothers Johnny and Jeff Boyd, whose creative synergy has shaped the song's emotive journey. In this interview, we explore the behind-the-scenes process of crafting ‘Waves of Hope,’ from its initial spark to its completion in their bedroom studio. Join us as we delve into the creative process, the impact of their DIY approach, and the personal significance of the track’s title.

'Waves of Hope' is described as an emotive journey blending ethereal melodies, hard-hitting choruses, and intricate guitar lines. Can you take us through the creative process behind this track?

Like most of our tracks, Johnny started with a basic idea for the instruments, and we worked out some vocals around that. This song was created over several sessions across Sydney and South Australia. After putting it aside for a while, we returned to it this year with a fresh perspective and completed the track.

The song was self-produced in your bedroom studio. What was it like to produce 'Waves of Hope' yourselves, and how did this DIY approach influence the final sound?

We enjoy self-producing our music because it gives us the freedom to record when we want and keep our sound as authentic as possible. We like the unprocessed quality that comes from a DIY approach.

How did you decide on the name 'Waves of Hope' for your new single, and what significance does it hold for you?

The name is taken from the chorus lyrics, and we like to think it represents maintaining hope amidst chaos or challenging times.

Rolling Stone praised your ability to blend quick shifts from whispered harmonies to aggressive thrusts. How do you achieve this dynamic contrast in your music, and what do you hope listeners take away from it?

We have always loved both heavy and melodic music, so blending the two comes naturally to us. We aim to create music that sounds nice but still packs a punch.

As brothers and bandmates, how does your relationship influence your music? Do you find it easier or more challenging to collaborate creatively?

It's easier because we agree on a lot of things, but is harder because we are not afraid to speak our minds and be honest with each other. But we wouldn't have it any other way!

With 'Waves of Hope' now released, what has the reception been like, and how do you feel about the feedback from your audience so far?

It's the song we're most proud of to date, so we’re not surprised by the positive response. We’re looking forward to some exciting things in the coming months (maybe a cover... but shh).
